Description

After selling the family home for funds; in July 1996 Bob and Christine Harper  set forth on a voyage from their home port of Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland in ‘Breakaway’ a 33 ft yacht.  The journey round the world was to last five years; each day a new adventure.  They encountered storms, crocodiles, whales, shipwrecks, dragons; along with orangutans in the rain forests of Borneo.  ‘Letters to the Boatyard’ relates stories of local people who live at the edge of the oceans, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and various Gulfs, Straits, bays and seas in between.  It is also about community; a travelling community at sea – a lifestyle – and you don’t have to be a sailor to enjoy it.
